MyVita was born...
I think the hardest thing that I had to try and come to terms with was the fact that my father was sick. The fact that my dad would, sometime in the foreseeable future, die. See he was always there for me. One of the few absolutes in my life, his unbending, unyielding presence. So when the phone call came on New Year’s Day morning, it came as a complete surprise.
Throughout my entire life my dad was always a silent presence that listened to my rants without passing judgment and without getting excited. That was him in a nutshell, calm and controlled. The only thing that would ever rile him was the slightest of threats to his family as this was his one great love. And this is how I saw him, as a protector. Even at a very young age this was apparent. There is an infamous story in our family about when we were younger and we went for a weekend break to Inchidony, Co Cork. While walking through the hotel, me being my quiet self, squared up to a boy around my own age and said "my daddy is bigger than your daddy" and to my father’s utmost delight, the other boys dad was around 6ft 6 and weighed about twenty stone. But, to me, my dad was bigger still.
When I would rant, he would listen. When I needed help with some crazy DIY project, he was always the first to lend a hand. And when things looked bleak, he would simply say "It will all work out". Once, during a mini tirade, I questioned him on his "it will all work out" affirmation and he simple said “eventually” accompanied by a laugh. So in the weeks after he passed away, I found myself thinking about all the memories I had of him and how I would simply never hear his voice again. That was when MyVita was born. To me it is as much a part of his legacy as the company I founded. To me, if I can help even one person give a gift of remembrance to their loved ones, well my company is a success.
